Customer Reviews & Testimonials
Horse Shoe Bar & Restaurant stands as a quiet sentinel to the rich blend of Portuguese and Goan culinary traditions, nestled along the serene waterfront at Rua de Ourem, Panjim. The restaurant, led by Vasco Silveira, draws its essence from his childhood in Angola, Africa, where the culinary roots of authentic Portuguese cuisine were deeply planted. Walking into this charming establishment feels like stepping into a timeless piece of history. The walls, adorned with framed photographs and sketches, evoke nostalgia. One such sketch, created by the legendary Mario Miranda, tells the story of a cherished connection between the artist and the restaurant. The artist's admiration for the place led him to frequent it whenever he was in Goa, and upon returning from Portugal, he even gifted Vasco a beautiful artwork. This piece, now proudly framed in the restaurant, serves as a testament to the deep bonds formed over time and the enduring appeal of this special spot. The flavors at Horse Shoe Bar & Restaurant are nothing short of spectacular. With a menu that includes authentic dishes rarely found elsewhere, you are in for an unforgettable experience. From the rich, velvety Caldo Verde soups, bursting with vibrant greens and delicate meat slices, to the comforting Canja de Galinha, each bite brings a taste of nostalgia. The main courses, like the tender Caril de Hortalicas (vegetables cooked in a traditional Goan-style curry), are seasoned with love and tradition, while every dish seems to tell a story from Vasco's childhood, infused with a sense of place that you can taste. The ambience mirrors the food--warm, inviting, and rich in history. The quaint interior, with soft lighting and simple, elegant decor, offers an intimate space for friends and families to gather, much like the cozy gatherings that once took place in these very walls. The blend of Luso-Goan flavors, steeped in tradition and expertly prepared by Vasco himself, supported by his equally amiable wife, adds a personal touch that few places can replicate. Horse Shoe Bar & Restaurant has truly preserved the unique cultural fusion that makes Goa's culinary heritage so special. It's a place where each meal is not just a feast for the senses, but a journey through time. Whether you're indulging in the nostalgic dishes or simply soaking in the serene surroundings, this restaurant ensures you take a piece of history with you. It remains, proudly and humbly, a beacon of the past, serving the present with love, tradition, and an unforgettable taste of nostalgia.
Nice restaurant with an atmosphere that takes you back in time, both the building and waiter. Food is excellent, and for sure, fresh and well done by the chef, the taste closing the eyes brings you straight in Portugal by the seaside with Indian tuch, price is also reasonable The only pity is that the house is located in a very busy road so there is no chance to have a place ouside.
Amazing place! A true Gem in Goa where you can find authentic Goan Portuguese cuisine with its traditional taste. The owner is really kind and puts in a lot of effort to get the best quality dishes to your table. Unlike the overhyped restaurants in Goa. This place is very quiet and less crowded. The food flavours are subtle and not overpowering with extreme spice. If you like spicy food this place may not be for you but if you like to taste the proper flavours of the fish/meat with minimum spices but a lot of flavours then visit here. The best dish we had was the salted tongue and the clams cooked in white wine sauce. All of the dishes tasted excellent and won't make you feel tired and weighed down. A must visit in Panjim for true food lovers who will understand the palate.
Just visited this gem. Beautiful Portuguese ambience, very courteous and kind staff, and the FOOD. So delicious. Loved the Fried chorizos. The flavours of all the dishes we ordered were just bang on! Definitely worth visiting once again.
Very warm and friendly host who is the chef himself As we got the menu from the waiter the chef asked us about our preferences and suggested us some dishes which we would enjoy. Went with the Fish Butter and Garlic which I thoroughly enjoyed...I don't usually order fish but I'm definitely glad I did. The beef steak was well done and much enjoyed too. Will definitely visit again when in Panjim
One of the best place I have been in Panjim for Goan and Portuguese cuisine. All the food we ordered was delicately prepared to perfection. The ambience and the themed music makes you feel you are in a different country. The service is very quick. The food is reasonably priced. Definitely recommend this place if you want to try some Goan and Portuguese cuisine.
I had dinner here alone and I was a bit scared to feel weird being alone but the man of the staff was so nice and talked to me and made me feel at home. I had canapes and bacalao with butter and they were so good! So please come and support these non touristic restaurants where the food has quality and they have the passion for the service and quality
I love the taste. I'm a vegetarian and worried how the food choice and taste, after tasting the food here I feel like going again n again. You are in Panjim this cafe is must visit place. And the cafe owners are really friendly and courteous.
