Customer Reviews & Testimonials

One of the very few places in Baroda which offers a true taste of dishes including the very famous dish from Maharashtra known as Poona Misal. All of their dishes are nice. We had Dahi idli, Poona Misal, uttapa dosa, and pain dosa. All of which were fantastic in taste. Service is very fast and the place wasn't overly busy, so we didn't have to wait too long for the table.

Recently visited this cafe on my last trip to Vadodra. A small old style cafe which is perfect for someone who enjoys lazy Sunday brunch. Had the very famous puna misal, masala dosa, uthapam and chai. Food was excellent in taste, prices are very reasonable. Vibe is of very retro like cafe (something which i love). Overall a must a try. Note - during summers it can be little difficult as they didn't had Ac.

We had Poona misal and neer dosa with panner ghee roast and masala dosa. All were good. Really tasty. The quality of the food was great too. A really nice place to have south indian food

Explored a charming southern Indian cafe, a haven for South Indian food enthusiasts. The small, clean space is adorned with Southern-influenced paintings. Our indulgence in dosa, wada, and filter coffee revealed good quality, delicious flavors, and affordable prices. A delightful taste of the South!

Updated review in Nov 2024: I had high expectations based on my previous visits, but my recent experience was disappointing. Ordered Masala Uttapam and Dahi Wada. * Dahi Wada: Extremely basic--just dahi and wada with no raw spices or seasoning to elevate the flavor. It lacked the balance and taste one expects from this dish. Definitely a 1/5. * Masala Uttapam: It was passable but nothing extraordinary. A standard 3/5 at best. Additionally, they've now shifted the seating to the ground floor, which is cramped and congested with limited tables, making the dining experience uncomfortable. While they were once a go-to place for authentic South Indian flavors, the quality seems to have dropped since moving to their new location. Sadly, I won't be visiting again anytime soon. ------ ------- ---------- 1 year old 5/5 star review: One of the oldest south-indian cafes in the town. Previously, they were based near Sursagar & Fire Station. They are mainly known for their famous puna-misal dish. But, they have large varieties of dosas and uttapam available. Their new location started near Akota /Dandia Bazaar bridge is quite spacious and has downstairs (waiting area) and upstairs (for dine-in seating). Now, they even serve pav bhaji and other Indian cuisine alongside dahi wada, dosas, utappams and much more. Do give it a try, I am pretty sure you will like the taste of uttapams, dosas, dahi wada and puna misal; rest I haven't got a chance to taste. For puna misal, they say that it doesn't taste good after they moved to their new location. But, one can only confirm once they try it by themselves. I am not sure as I haven't ordered the puna misal yet at the new site.

It is not the same anymore, there is no ambience, no charm left, it has become a dead place and the food is abysmal. Rasam was made with a tomato ketchup base, no sourness to the sambar, rice was uncooked, the cold coffee was not coffee at all, tasted like cold coco and there were flies buzzing around the food, not hygienic at all. Very disappointed

We ended up here during our Vadodara visit after searching in google for nearby restaurants, and it was way worth it. Simple menu, but excellent food. Ambience is great. As mentioned they are in their third generation of service now, and I would it's keeping up the name. The quality, taste and pricing of the food is really good. Met and spoke with Ganesh, (third generation) and it was a pleasant one. It's even glad to note that this renovated place was inaugurated by the Royal Family, and Canara Cafe also have been their official catering.

Canara coffee house is very known name as south Indian food and restaurant in Vadodara. Here you will find all the authentic south Indian cuisines. Poona misal, Masala Dhosa, Idli Sambar are some of the delicious items in menu. One should try Tava Idli or fried Idli also. You can also get all kinds of Juices, lassi and curd items. Need little improvement in terms of service and hygiene.
