About Our Restaurant

Daryaganj - By the Inventors of Butter Chicken and Dal Makhani, a North Indian Cuisine restaurant, was conceptualized with the principle of celebrating the culinary legacy of Kundan Lal Jaggi and the resilience and innovation of the Punjabi refugees who migrated to Delhi after the partition of India in the year 1947 blending old-world flavours and closely guarded recipes with the most talented and creative team to create a best in class dining experience reminiscent of a bygone era, with due credit to his grandson Raghav Jaggi and Raghav's childhood friend, restaurateur Amit Bagga.

Customer Reviews & Testimonials

I recently dined at Daryaganj and had an incredible experience. Their butter chicken and dal makhani were hands down the best I've ever tasted -- rich, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The breads were equally impressive: perfectly crisp and fresh, they really hit the spot and complemented the meal beautifully. The only slight downside was the dessert; the phirni felt like it had been refrigerated for too long and unfortunately lacked flavor. However, that minor hiccup aside, the overall meal was absolutely top-notch. Daryaganj is definitely a must-visit if you're looking for authentic, high-quality North Indian food.

A warm and cosy setup, marking old Delhi vibes, with authentic Delhi dishes done brilliantly. You connect with this place and the food it offers. The dishes might be common but taste and experience is certainly unique at Daryaganj. Special mention to courteous staff and their kids friendly attitude.

I guess the reviews are a bit fake. I tried butter paneer naan and mushroom none of the food had a flavour rather it was all bland it was Iike someone has started learning how to cook from youtube. A week before I tried moti mahal in the same complex and it was awesome. I guess Daryaganj restaurant is a scam.

So, we visited this place last Wednesday and ordered Hara Bharat kebab as appetizer and their signature Dal Makhani 1947 and Original butter paneer 1947 along with Garlic naan and laccha parantha in main course. Their dal makhani is outstanding and so was the appetizer but paneer tasted very basic and it mostly had gravy. Also, we had ordered Diet Coke which we received only when the food was about to finish. Sigh! Now, it could be because we visited very late in night but for any great place, it shouldn't be the excuse. All in all, didn't meet the hype for us.

Avoid at any cost! This place is an expensive piece of junk with no real taste, one of our friend didn't even eat his share. 1) Tandoori Malai Broccoli: Undercooked with little to no malai and flavour, some part of the pieces were almost raw. 2) Daal Makhni: had too much salt, had to leave it, this is the 1st time I have ever left daal makhni. 3) Paneer Lababdaar: okay 3/5 4) Garlic naan: were a bit soggy and thick. Drinks: ordered non alcoholic ones and they sell flavoured sugary syrups, expect restaurants to make fresh drinks if charging premium. Verdict: Quality and taste of food 1/5 Value for money 1/5

Daryaganj restaurant really needs no introduction as they are the inventor of Butter Chicken and Dal Makhani. The restaurant is small but cosy. The see-through kitchen gives you confidence that you are at the right place. Talking about the food, we ordered The Inventor's Platter (1357) which had a great and tasty assortment of non veg snacks. As per recommendations we ordered Veg snacks Bharwan Paneer Tikka (523) and Dahi Kebab (467) which were mind blowing. For the main course, we ordered The Original 1947 Butter Chicken (657), The Original 1947 Dal Makhani (517) and The Original Butter Paneer (547) which were all absolutely smashing. We ordered Indian breads, Lachha Parantha (137), Roomali Roti (103), Butter Roti (113) and Garlic Naan (147) which were excellent. For beverages, we had Bira Blonde Tap (375), Diet Coke (162), Virgin Mojito (242), Daryaganj Taazgee (242) and Matha from Daryaganj (242) which were all amazing. Here is what I didn't like. The service was slow. We had ordered Plain Tandoori roti but got Butter ones. We could not order Virgin Mary although there was Bloody Mary on the menu. This is the first restaurant I have seen in my life which refused to customize the drink. Service charge of 10% charged in bill in guise of Staff contribution. All this was still okay but what really annoyed me was that an outsider lady entered without permission and started asking for charity while we were all seated comfortably inside on the table. We complained to the waiter and he did absolutely nothing. We asked the lady to leave immediately and thankfully she did. The very fact that an outsider can harass the seated dining guests who have made reservations puts a big question mark on the security and reputation of this restaurant. Putting aside this unfortunate event, the restaurant is still highly recommended for its unique authentic Indian cuisine.

Very few restaurants maintain consistent quality and taste, but dining at Daryaganj truly feels like experiencing the original eatery in Daryaganj from where the owners started. The restaurant is serving the same authentic flavors and high-quality food offering a nostalgic yet exceptional dining experience. Yes, not to forget the cocktails-especially the kokum with kiwi-which are great and highly recommended. It was a wonderful experience, truly taking me down the memory lane of food at Daryaganj, reliving the authentic flavors and nostalgia associated with the original joint

Dal Makhani tastes really great and apart from that we ordered Subz biryani and it was really amazing. Original butter Paneer was average. From cost point of view this restaurant is on the higher side, also they charge for 10% staff contribution on the bill instead of service charge which was no where mentioned in menu, given overall cost of each menu item on the higher side it should not be added as default to the bill, I have not requested to waive that off though.
