Hotel Matsya (Fish restaurant)

It was my first time in Chikmagalur and after a day's worth of hiking and tasting different varieties of coffees, I was dead tired and wanted nothing more than a plate of good food to fill my appetite. I had previously heard a lot of good seafood in the area but didn't know where exactly to go. Searching through the lanes, I happened to somehow spot a small fishy sign hanging with neon light above a hotel. The sign read Matsya. Well, you guys..then my hunger spoke on my behalf. I went inside and ordered a plate of fish meal with ghee roast prawns and roasted squid. Now they had this open kitchen alright? And I could see them adding spices and literally making the food in front of me so I know its not precooked and freshly heated -now, I only waited for them to place the plates. As they did, I took a bite into the prawns, and by God I swear!! it melted into my mouth. I was - in awe. Believe me, the food was as good as it comes. I mean, you all know the satisfaction an actual good dish gives you when you've been craving for it all day. Plus the people were so sweet! They'd constantly come and check if you need anything or need seconds. Look, if you've never tasted good seafood before, take my word for it, close your pretty eyes and just order yourself a platter. You'll know what I'm talking about. One last bonus point - the prices are extremely pocket friendly, so don't hesitate to walk in with your +1.

They had a really awesome menu, each one of them was one better than the other . And the service was really fast. Didn't have to wait much long. Absolute pleasant atmosphere... The way they care about the customer from the start of entering into the restaurant and till the end is top notch. They have a open kitchen and the kitchen are well maintained and looks so tidy... The prices of each items are budget friendly and is worth trying every sea food items.. Overall it was a great experience. Highly Recommended to all travelling towards chikmagalur to have a nice sea food meals..

We have visited the Matsya for the first time. Good ambience. Excellent taste! Best tasty food on reasonable price.. Service was good. I would love to visit again.

Had dinner at this family run small restaurant. It is conveniently located just on the road. Roadside parking is available. We tried the fish meal, neer dosa, sliver fry, red snapper fry and kingfish fry. Loved the home made masalas. Staff are courteous.

We are from Mysore, on the way to mullayyanagiri visited this place for lunch. Good food, good taste, we tasted multi cuisine and all are very good and a must visit place for people who like sea food.

Boiled and fish curry. With Anjali tawa fry and Banda masala. Gravy lacks the punch it does not taste like fish gravy. Fish is fresh and made to order. Bland taste. Need to improve on the spices. Salt/chilli/Tamarind. Only savior was butter milk.
