Shalimar Restaurant

Tried lunch with chicken biriyani. Food was very bad and non tasty. Chicken was not cooked more than 10% . Just made a fried coating. Also there isn't a perfect masala( i mean onion masala) in a chicken biriyani. Just delivered a seperate chicken masala pieces together with biriyani rice and served as biriyani. Totally bad experience. Ambience and parking were perfect however the major food was not better.

Recently we had dined at the Shalimar Hotel, and while it was a comfortable and convenient experience, I must note that the afternoons were incredibly busy. The hotel's central location and popularity make it a hub of activity, especially during peak hours. The Food served was ok and not the best.The tables were clean and well-maintained, with staff available to assist looking for tips only. The hotel was not the best in a town like Kottayam.There was lot of options to choose from for the foodies ....

Good budget restaurant. Good service. Walkable distance from PWD rest house Kottayam.

Worst service ever. We got insulted by a staff. We ordered four sets of porotta and a beef curry. And he said " gravy onnum kittilla ath pratheekshich anengil kazhikkan irikkanda ". The staff seemed wery disinterested on our presence. And he was like " veennengki nynnnniitttt poottaa ". Avoid shalimar restaurant at all cost. You'll regret visiting this place.

A very disappointing time for me at the hotel,after walking 800m from ksrtc stand to the hotel in scorching heat I asked for the menu inside the ac dining where the waiter asked me to go out and look at the menu near the counter and order from there. We felt like we were having food at their expense. After looking at the other reviews I'm not surprised as it looks like a recurring incident. If you're looking for a good family time don't opt this hotel. Very unprofessional and mannerless behaviour. Although I reported this to the person at the counter no action was taken momentorily.

One of the best places to have porotta and Beef at Kottayam.! Not too clean. Most of the time the hotel is busy! I recently had the opportunity to try the mutton biryani from Shalimar for lunch on December 26, 2023, and, to be honest, it was a disappointing experience. Despite my high expectations, the mutton lacked the desired taste and the rice fell short of the anticipated quality. Considering the price point of 270 rupees, the overall experience left much to be desired. Interestingly, my friend had suggested that the meals were a better choice, which adds a contrasting note to the culinary offerings at Shalimar.

Good restaurant. Staff behaviour is not friendly, especially who sit in the cash counter. Curry items are spicy. Ample parking space in front of the restaurant. Easy access from highway. Hygene atmosphere.

The place is familiar since they had space in baker junction. I still remember all the good days when I brought CB for 45rs. They were the pioneers in this field. Today, I revisited to taste it and was disappointed with the CB they serve now. They have to raise to the expectation of current Trent or else it will b hard to survive.
