Pork & Bamboo Shoot Thali - Rs.250 A.D. Naga Food, near NEIGRIHMS, Mawdiangdiang, New Shillong Chakesang Naga $$ 10.08.24 A.D. Naga Food located opposite to Neigrihms hospital & owned by a Chakesang Naga family has been serving Naga Thalis for the last 15-16 years. There are only 2 Chakesang foodstalls in Shillong, the other one being Tribal Kitchen in Don Bosco Square. Infact it is one of the 1st shops near NEIGRIHMS. The old location which was right besides Kharir Foodstall has shifted to the next building again next to Kharir. Anyway this is my 1st time here & I would like to believe that this is the last Naga Foodstall that I'm covering within Shillong & New Shillong. I walked downstairs to the shop where a smiling lady welcomed me inside. The place was shifted just recently & had basic seating arrangements. The menu was also very focused with just a few items, I like that. I went with the Pork & Bamboo Shoot Thali. The order came within 5 mins. It had rice, 5 & a half pieces of Pork in Bamboo shoot, Bamboo shoot soup, fried potato curry, potato chutney, boiled cabbage & salad. The rice didn't look special but it was that nice northeastern semi-sticky rice that goes so well with such dishes. The pork was rather nice & 5 &1/2 pieces is all you can eat pork for one person. It was tasty as well but didn't have too much of a gravy. And well the bamboo shoot soup was like a plain syrwa without ginger. It was soupy & okay but I would have preferred a simple dal. The potato chutney did make up for the flavors & the potato fry curry & boiled cabbage along with the lady's smile complemented the meal very well. Overall a good meal. Indeed one of the best naga restaurant in shillong. I have been to other Naga restaurants in shillong, however, after taking into accountability of all the factors like price, taste, service, this one is the best. one should definitely try all their thali. The cooked innards is very nice and the pork thali here is to die for. The owner is also quite friendly.
Cozy homely atmosphere. Fast delivery and consistently amazing food. Smoked pork curry is a must try.
Owners and workers are friendly, food is great and best Naga food in the area!
