A must try phenomenon is Maha Virundhu. An experience. The dishes are beautifully presented. Beautifully explained. And the taste is amazing. Singling out these three lovely gentlemen: Shivakumar (Manager) ; Perumal (Chef); Govindarajan (Waiter) Brilliant. Pro tip: go easy on the starters / papads

I've been there multiple times and after yet another great experience last week, I felt i should take the time to write a well deserved review! Looking for authentic south indian food at a classy location? Come visit Southern Spice in Chennai. Btwn, come hungry.... there is alot of food... good food :)

You must come hungry! We arrived as the first table at 1900. Worried a little but after the evening goes on, it gets busier and busier. Great service with every dish. The Chef and team were very kind to ensure we are okay with the spicyness and others. The Fish Biriyani also great but not as good as one at Taj Falaknuma Palace. Though at the end, we could tell the team was overwhelmed as guests just sat themselves at any tables they could find, so probably best to go early to enjoy the full experience.

We were at Southern Spice for participating in a family get together. Awesome Food, Courteous Service and GreatAmbiance made the entire Dinner Event thoroughly enjoyable experience. We are thankful to the Hosts. Stand out items at the Dinner: Appetiser - Tomato Rasam, Starters: Okhra Pakora, Fried Fish, Main Course: Biryani, Kuruma, Aapam Stew. What stood out the most was the cultural ambiance--live classical dance performances added a beautiful touch to the evening, enhancing the overall atmosphere. Southern spice in Taj Coromandel can restore spirit with warm service, cheery surrounding and satisfying food. Appam, payasam, ishtew & paruppu podi are elevated to next level, other foods from the seafood thali was nothing special but good.

I expected a better atmosphere and food taste, the food was in good portions, taste wise it ws just fine, a pit noisy restaurant, the waiters were very polite and on service all the time.

Known for the southern delicacies and beautiful ambiance , my childhood favourite restaurant was Southern Spice. It's been ages since I dined here so went with my friend for lunch . Good service Great ambiance But the quality of the food was very very poor, ordered one non veg thali, parotta and Manglore ghee roast. The moment I had the chicken I knew something was off it had the raw smell, was actually stinking and I told my friend as well and she had a taste too and she felt the same the parottas wer so hard over, crispy like the complimentary applams and it didn't taste anything like a Malabar Parotta which they told me it is when I specifically enquired. Over the time it became more hard impossible to even eat, well the staff was sweet enough to notice and asked me if I'll have a fresh hot one I refused because I lost appetite cuz of the nasty chicken smell. For a star category hotel like TAJ I never expected this. As the portion was too much we packed it and gave a taste to our peeps, everyone agreed the chicken was raw , it may also be old and TBH they never believed it was from SS!! The wort part was I got sick and I puked twice in the evening and I had to visit my doctor. We were also charged for the desserts which we thought that's included in thali as it used to be previously, we weren't notified about this only while checking the invoice we asked about it and they told us it's not included. ONLY The ice cream tasted the best. That's all Spending a bomb on a meal at the most famous spot of the city just to fall sick ! This is the most worst experience I ever had at a star Hotel especially a brand that holds strong reputation, hate to compare but other chettinad / south cuisine restaurants offer some better quality and hygienic food Very disappointed with this experience.
