Hotel Gnanam

Excellent hotel, superb sevice and spacious well maintained rooms. The food was a delight. Extremely well take care by each and every person. The person helping you with Igguage, the lady picking up the vessels, the person taking order for food, everyone. The ready to give best service attitude runs in the chain. Quite delighted with the stay.

Worst experience in a hotel in our travel time, we never had to give a bad feedback for any of the problems that hotel has . We have to advise to all travellers coming in here that you Will pay here for 24hours service ,we arrived at the hotel at 6.30 am NOT requesting the room availability, and as everywhere you go in any hotel in the world is their discretion to give the room earlier then their check in time (12pm), they said the room was already ready and we happily enter the room at 6.30 am , NOBODY advise us that the service was for 24 hours from the time of entering the room . Well.. at 6.20 am next day we received a call from reception saying that we have to leave otherwise Will be late checkout fee to pay , as for out booking was at 12 pm ! NOBODY asked them to have the room at 6.30 am is always as THEIR DISCRETION and nobody told us of this absurdity otherwise we would never accept the room that early! The man at the reception was no clear at all and no helpful in this situation, without giving his name also ,to be able to place a complain to his supervisor! Also we had breakfast included but not be able to use It of course cause the very early check out! Also included there Is wifi in your price but It didnt work at all!! All this situation It Is a great scam and not in favour of the customer and no helpful at all , careful also to go out of your room later then check out because the room Will not open anymore with all your staff ,luggage ,phones and Money in It! Really really bad experience ,Hope this Will help next travellers to not fall for this SCAM!

One of the finest facilities available within Thanjavur city. Hotel is bit old but they offer you all the required amenities. Rooms were very spacious and clean, same with Toilets. There were more than enough supply of toiletries. Location is very convenient and Thanjavur Big temple is less than 1km away. Staff were well behaved and breakfast buffet was good and tasty. Overall a classic stay at budget friendly price.

A little bad experience being at the centre of the town thought it would be great but not as it looks. Rooms smell on the 3rd floor..bed bugs.. unreasonable charges for water...ac was slow and not much cooling, tv-pressing the button once to change channel automatically changes 10 channels..quilt didn't cover the full bed to cover ourself..paying 4K + for a bed bug room is not worth it..first and last..

Hotel is very easy to locate, as it's in a prime location in Thanjavur with all historical landmarks, bus stand, hospital etc close by. Eventhough the hotel is old, rooms were clean. Seemed the price we paid was more for the location than anything else. Breakfast came with decent options. Spotted a centipede in the bathroom which was little worrying. parking is available within the premises but at the mercy of sun and availability at the mercy of restaurant crowd volume. Wi-fi provision is very scarce and not available for every room, staff was saying only one device can be connected at a time (not per room) which was ridiculous

I'm reviewing the veg restaurant in this hotel. I had the Bombay meal and my friend had the Gnanam Special Meal. The food was excellent. We were served by Shanti who did a great job. She explained in English what each item we were served. The restaurant was very clean and the prices were reasonable. We would eat here again.

I started at Gnanam for two nights in the spacious Executive Suite, at 7000 a night. If I were to return to Thanjavur, I would certainly return to Gnanam. The suite was truly a suite, with separate living, dining, and bed rooms. The suite was well equipped with a full-size refrigerator, multiple AC units, and both a bathtub and Indian-style shower. The decor is no longer contemporary, but everything was clean and the furniture is quality. Lunch at their restaurant was fantastic and room service was prompt. Breakfast was okay. Booking and payment was easy. I was able to reserve a room directly through their website, and international credit cards are accepted. When I needed to book a full-day taxi on short notice, the staff were very helpful, and handled it all.

Disappointing Stay - In Need of Serious Improvements The hotel feels old and rundown, with just three floors and an overall dated appearance. While the room is spacious, it's clearly in need of renovation. A massive wall-mounted air conditioner dominates the space--something you'd expect in budget accommodations. The front desk staff were indifferent and didn't even provide the Wi-Fi username and password during check-in, which was inconvenient. The bathroom was the biggest disappointment. It still uses a shower curtain, which feels outdated and unhygienic for a hotel, and the water wasn't hot enough, making showers uncomfortable. Breakfast was another letdown. It started late, and many dishes were empty with long delays before they were refilled. This lack of efficiency was frustrating, especially when expecting a basic level of service. Honestly, the only reason people prefer this hotel is because of its prime location. Without that advantage, it would struggle to attract guests based on its current standards. Overall, the hotel falls short in terms of comfort, service, and amenities. Significant improvements are needed to meet even basic expectations.
