Friends recommended this place as they had lunch and they loved it so we decided why not dinner as it was close to the guest house we lived in. Since I have a long journey the next day I decided on a simple pulav and it tasted good, the server was king enough to get a small gravy from the buffet as my dish was simple to eat. Thank you so much for your kindness as I knew I would have wasted an entire dish by ordering. Loved the ambience and the huge families sitting together and dinning. My friends enjoyed their dishes and we left with a happy stomach. Lovely vibe the restaurant gave out.

We visited 6 Ballygunge Place on a Thursday evening and were pleasantly surprised to find it not too crowded. The restaurant boasts a charming antique and aesthetic ambience, perfect for taking plenty of pictures and soaking in a touch of old-world Bengali elegance. For starters, we ordered the Fish Fry and Fish Kabiraji. While the Fish Fry was decent and lived up to expectations, the Fish Kabiraji was a disappointment--it lacked the signature flavor and richness one would typically expect from the dish. Moving on to the mains, we tried Basanti Pulao along with Daab Chingri, Kosha Mangsho, and Kacha Lonka Dhonepata Murgi, following the waiter's recommendations. Among these, the Kosha Mangsho stood out--it was rich, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, the Daab Chingri and the chicken dish failed to impress, falling short in both taste and depth of flavor. For dessert, we had the Nolen Gurer Ice Cream, and it was undoubtedly the highlight of the meal. Creamy, indulgent, and bursting with authentic jaggery flavor--it's a must-try. Overall, 6 Ballygunge Place is a great spot if you're looking to experience authentic Bengali cuisine in a beautiful setting. However, be prepared for a hefty dent in your pockets--most items are quite overpriced considering the hit-or-miss food quality.

If Kolkata's love for Bengali cuisine had a flagship restaurant, "6 Ballygunge Place" would be it. Nestled in a quaint British-era bungalow, this restaurant is famous for serving nostalgia with a side of history -- but does it live up to the hype? Well, that depends on whether you're paying for the ambience or the actual food. Walking in, you're greeted by colonial charm, framed pictures of Bengal's golden past, and an aroma that promises a feast fit for a zamindar. The menu boasts all the Bengali classics -- Shukto, Chingri Malai Curry, Kosha Mangsho, and Mishti Doi -- but while some dishes hit the right notes, most of the others seem like they've lost their way in the spice bazaar. And let's talk about the elephant in the room -- the pricing. While the food aims to be "ghorer ranna" (home-style cooking), the bill makes you feel like you just funded an East India Company revival. With premium pricing, you'd expect exceptional flavors, but what you often get is "good, but not mind-blowing" food. Interesting Facts: 1. The restaurant is housed in a restored heritage mansion, adding to its old-world charm. 2. They popularized the concept of Bengali buffet dining, but at a cost that makes even fish-loving Bengalis think twice. 3. Their "Daab Chingri" (prawns in coconut shell) is legendary -- when it's made right! Verdict: Go for the heritage vibes and Bengali nostalgia, but if you're looking for value for money, your neighborhood pice hotel might serve you better!

Location is good. Inside a peaceful locality in a quite popular area in Kolkata. No designated parking for the restaurant but enough paid or unpaid parking places on the street. Ground and 1st floor are the dining area. Accommodates quite a good amount of people. But not cramped up. Decor and ambience is of authentic Bengali culture. Well decorated and the aircon is fine. The food taste honestly fell short of expectations. The prices are steep. Bottle of mineral water was charged at 50/- against the actual printed 20/- MRP. Busy area and busy restaurant especially on weekends but I have had better bengali food in other restaurants of Kolkata.

A delicious and filling buffet lunch with a full range of veg and non-veg Indian specialties. Beautifully restored dining rooms in a historic building, bustling at lunch time - with fast, professional service from a friendly team. Tastes were all fresh and flavorful. Expensive and recommended.

Must visit for Bengali food, everything we ordered was excellent. Check out names of their cocktails Hijibijbij was my favorite. It's worth the visit if you are in Kolkata looking for local cuisine in a pristine place.

Great place.. try booking advance to avoid Wait/ queues. From appetizers to sweets, this restaurant well surpassed our expectations! Our family really liked the appetizers, the selection of sweets, and the hand-churned ice cream! The burnt mehidana and nolen gurer icecream was quite popular! "Highly recommended."

I recently held my wedding reception at 6 Ballygunge Place Banquet, and I must say, everything was flawlessly organized from start to finish. The atmosphere was elegant, the decorations were stunning, and the entire space was well-maintained. The food was definitely the star of the show--every dish was delicious, and the flavors were just spot-on. Every guest was left thoroughly impressed with the culinary experience. The staff was fantastic too. They were super friendly and always on top of things. A big shoutout to Mr. Pradip, who managed the whole event like a pro. His attention to detail and ability to ensure everything went off without a hitch made the whole experience even more special.
