Customer Reviews & Testimonials
We had a good experience while dining at Calcutta Retro. The interior decoration was royal and it looks really good! The taste of each and every dish we tried were really mouthwatering. We tried Amish Pantheras which had a good coating of minced mutton, Gondhoraj Kathi Murgi was good with it's distinct taste as well, Colonial Mutton Dak Bungalow had a bengali touch in its flavour but the mutton were really juicy and soft, and Murshidabadi murgir pulao made with tulaipanji rice was really good. Each and every items were freshly prepared and the taste was really good! The atmosphere was family friendly. The service wise it could have been managed little better, but I guess that the team will slowly improve over the time. Nevertheless the team was really supportive and suggested some real good dishes that was tasty. They didn't had any Thali option all of the menu were a la carte!
Tried Bhetki Fry, Basanti Pulao & Chingri Malaikari in lunch today. It was delicious. The ambience was giving an aesthetic vibe. Overall experience was good
Height of Unprofessionalism and mismanagement Visited the restaurant on Poila boisakh, it is very much expected and normal that huge rush will be there due to the occasion, they were taking booking through zomato, swiggy and after visiting there they denied the table reservations and asked everyone to register their names again one by one serially We have waited around 2hours beyond our booked time slot to get hold of a table, after that after getting a table again waited for around half an hour to get the food Now coming to the food, the portion was extremely bad, the quantity of rice and pulau they served in the thali was not even enough for a little kid to meet their appetite, and they're so devilish smart that if you want rice more they will charge the ala carte price which is unnecessarily extremely priced Service was too poor We asked for glasses for four to five times Being a bengali cuisine restaurant they should expect the rush and had made the necessary arrangements prior Never gonna visit again Wasted our time and patience a lot
Food quality and quantity are too good. We are 8 in a group ordered Starting with Welcome drink aampanna then 1. Kaju kismis pulao - 6 plates 1plate is enough for two people. I suggest you have order 1plate for 2 person,if needed then reorder. Their service are very first. 2. Narayangunjer dhaniya murgi - 3 leg piece chicken in single plate. We ordered 3 plates. 3. Colonial mutton Dak bungalow - 4 pieces of mutton in 1 plate. Veg items 1. Tossim bazar handi paneer - The quantity was sufficient for two people. We ordered 1 plate 2. English vegetable jal frezi- It's actually a mixed vegetable . Must trying dish in vegetable menu. All dishes are delicious . Staffs are very polite. Parking : street parking available At a time maximum 6 people sit together.
Delicious food with warm hospitality by the staff. Enjoyed lot. Specially Double onion ghee roasted Mutton and Bhutta Mochar Pulao was fabulous.
Had booked the place for anniversary celebration of parents. The environment and the food options both are good. Service staff is excellent and very cooperative.
We went there for lunch during Durga Puja 2024 and only the Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian thalis were available during that time. We booked our table beforehand. We tried their Non-Vegetarian Thali (priced at Rs 1099), which had around 20 items. All the food items were really delicious. The ambience was very classy and the staff were very efficient and helpful. Overall, had a nice experience!
I've visited this restaurant twice before and was always impressed by the quality of the food. So, when I decided to bring my family along, I was excited to introduce them to this place, having spoken so highly of it. However, my experience this time was far from pleasant. Upon entering, my brother-in-law pointed out a roach on one of the tables, which was extremely embarrassing. I asked the waiter to address the issue, but instead of offering a solution, he simply insisted we sit at a different table. The food was another disappointment. The dishes were completely different from what I had enjoyed before. I ordered the Prawn Malai Curry, which had only two tiny pieces of prawn on a strange plate, and the Korai Shutti Kochuris were cold and greasy. The overall quality was far below what I had previously experienced. To make matters worse, the waitstaff seemed disinterested and unhelpful. When I spoke to the manager about the issues, he was rude and refused to acknowledge that the dishes had changed. He insisted that everything was exactly as before, which felt dismissive and frustrating. I was also disappointed to find that the staff didn't even know about the offers running on Dine Out, adding to my frustration. This place used to be a gem, but it seems the change in staff and kitchen staff has really affected the quality. It's a shame to see a once-great restaurant decline like this.
